Research & DevelopmentAutomation of energy analysis

Energenius has always considered it essential to investigate technologies capable of surpassing the state of the art, to offer its customers increasingly sophisticated and optimal services, both in the monitoring and analysis of energy data.

This propensity to search for innovative solutions has ensured a clear positioning within the energy market.

More specifically, Energenius is focusing on issues related to the automation of energy analysis that do not require (or limit as much as possible) human intervention: algorithms, data analytics, Artificial Intelligence on a distributed infrastructure that allow the pre- processing and storing of data locally where they are produced to increase efficiency, effectiveness and resilience.

In these areas, Energenius is carrying out two research and development projects, in collaboration with research centers of international importance.

Open Projects

  • GEM-Edge

  • In the project, the consortium composed of Energenius and Hub Innovazione Trentino, in collaboration with the Calzedonia Group, designs and implements a low-cost fog computing node to be installed in retail stores or other distributed sites, to perform artificial intelligence models and analysis advance on the edge. This fog node allows you to effectively and reactively process, filter and process data relating to energy, environmental and business KPIs, offering a new solution to optimize in real time and implement relevant parameters for energy consumption and monitor the quality of the air.

  • The objective of the project, carried out in collaboration with the Bruno Kessler Foundation and the Calzedonia Group, is the creation of a global (end-to-end) commercial solution for retail stores, which integrates Fog Computing (hardware nodes and installed software components in stores) and a software platform based on Artificial Intelligence (AI, applied to the energy / environmental domain) to manage, analyze and compare aggregate data. It is necessary to define new heuristic and artificial intelligence algorithms optimized in order to ensure adequate performance on a hardware component with limited resources, to allow benchmarking between stores and the identification of the most critical situations. It will also be necessary to provide a scalable and automated management and updating system (zero-touch deployment) of these algorithms.

Ended Projects

  • GEM-Grid

  • Etichetta Gem Grid
  • Cartiere del Garda (Lecta Group) has installed a 50Mwh cogenerator. Part of the energy produced is used inside the plant, while the unused is sold to the national grid. The process is demand-driven: Cartiere del Garda provides a forecast on the amount of energy it will offer in the next two days, and errors on that forecast lead to fines imposed by the energy supplier. With GEM-Grid we collect actual and predicted data and process them through algorithms based on artificial intelligence. In this way, we digitize and automate a human process, improving the quality of the estimate by reducing penalties by at least 20%.

  • EnergIA!

  • Etichetta FESR
  • The project aims to design and implement, in collaboration with the Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK), an innovative product in which a distributed computing infrastructure based on fog computing is supported by artificial intelligence algorithms in order to collect data. energy and environmental and perform an automated energy analysis, customized on the specific characteristics of each customer. This technological platform, integrated with the main energy monitoring systems, will offer customers an accurate analysis in real time, including the possibility of carrying out the most significant energy efficiency actions.

  • The goal of the project is the creation of specialized software modules for the automated energy analysis of systems and buildings. The solution to be implemented will be able to perform the energy data analysis independently, applying the skills and experience of our Energy Manager team and at the same time relieving them from carrying out repetitive and costly analysis activities. Finally, the product will make it possible to improve the regulation of the most energy-intensive machinery by applying algorithms based on machine-learning techniques, with the aim of identifying inefficiencies and minimizing waste, malfunctions and regulations or inefficient behaviors.
